Presently serving as pastor of Second Missionary Baptist Church is the Reverend Paul A. McDaniel. Pastor McDaniel came to Chattanooga in August, 1966. Since coming to Second he has distinguished himself as a dedicated leader in all phases of community life. Not only has he used his great talents for the building and developing of our church, but he has shown great concern and understanding for the welfare of all people.

Pastor McDaniel, the youngest of five siblings and the son of the Reverend Adam T. and Maggie McDaniel, is well prepared for the ministry. His early training was received in Rock Hill, South Carolina. From Morehouse College he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, a Master of Divinity degree from Colgate-Rochester Divinity School and a Masters of Arts degree from the University of Rochester in New York.

He was the first black minister to serve as President of the Clergy Association of Greater Chattanooga. Reverend McDaniel is also an instructor in the National Baptist Sunday School and B. T. U. Congress and has taught at the Baptist Bible Center in Chattanooga. He is also chairman of the Unity Group, a civil rights organization, a member of the NAACP and People United to Save Humanity (PUSH), he serves on many advisory boards for various community groups. |

He currently serves as board chairman of the Westside Community Development Corporation and as chairman of the Clergy Koinonia Federal Credit Union. He is a former member of the Hamilton County Commission, having served for eight consecutive terms, three of which as chairman.

His tenure at Second has seen several accomplishments as evidenced by a growing ministry, membership and physical plant. Several innovative programs have been initiated or expanded. These programs include the Bus Ministry, Nurses’ Guild, Deacon’s Family Ministry and the Evangelism School.

Pastor McDaniel was married to the late Edna Phillips McDaniel, and to this union were born Paul Jr., Pamela (deceased), Patricia and Peter.
